
Bill Carstanjen is the Chief Executive Officer of Churchill Downs Incorporated and a member of its Board of Directors. He was named the Company’s twelfth CEO in 2014 after serving as President and Chief Operating Officer. Since joining Churchill Downs in 2005 as Executive Vice President, Chief Development Officer, and General Counsel, Mr. Carstanjen has overseen the continued growth and expansion of the Kentucky Derby, one of the world’s most iconic sporting and entertainment events.
Prior to Churchill Downs, Mr. Carstanjen was an executive at General Electric Company and began his career as an attorney at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP. He graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, and earned his law degree from Columbia University, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
